We are being relocated form Weston FL to Ridgefield CT. My husband is going to work at Purchase NY. Can anyone tell me about the commute?
We chose Ridgefield for the school district and cost of houses. Is there any particular area you suggest to buy a home (budget $800k top). We are a family with two boys at High School and a girl in Elementary. What can we expect to get for that price?
Thanks!!!

Not a bad commute. Moderate traffic on 684 but nothing terrible. Great town and $800k is right in the sweet spot. Should be able to snag a nice newer 4BR for that.

I agree $800K is a great price for Ridgefield, particularly for resale purposes. Great little downtown area as well.

Ridgefield is a fantastic town. Your price point is just about average for the town so, as others have said, you're looking in the perfect area.

As for your commute, it will be fairly easy. You'll take RT 35 and pick up 684 in Katonah. Traffic will be minimal. If there is an "incident" on 684, you can always go south through Vista into New Canaan and hop on the parkway. Total travel time for the 684 route will be about 35-40 minutes without traffic.

There are basically 3 non-designated sections of Ridgefield. There's Ridgebury, which is the northern third of town near Danbury. It's mostly rural but very close to everything the west side of Danbury offers. There's Ridgefield Center, which is close to the center of downtown and is the most convenient to RT 35. Homes are generally closer together and some neighborhoods have sidewalks. Then there is Branchville, which is southern Ridgefield near Wilton and the area people refer to as "Georgetown". It's close to shopping in Wilton and Norwalk, and is convenient for those commuting by train.

Ridgefield has a great teen center near downtown and there are a ton of community activities to keep them busy. The town consistently ranks as one of the best (and some years, THE best) towns to live in CT, in terms of school quality and general quality of life. To most towns in CT, Ridgefield would be considered expensive. When comparing to its counterparts in lower Fairfield County, it's an absolute bargain.

You can't go wrong in Ridgefield - great town, great schools and one of the safest towns in the state. (They have some ridiculously low crime rate)

Thank you so much for your responses. Now, thinking that we might stay ther for several years, do you recommend one middle school better than the other?

Nah. Find a house you like. Don't worry about the schools, they're all equally good.
