Hello people.
Just moved all the way from NJ. Love CT so far. Would like to know about Restaurants, movie theatres, DMV, museum, archery ranges, and any other places of interest you think I should go and visit. All suggestions are welcome.

When you have the chance stop by the rest stop on I-95 in Darien (the first rest stop driving east <north bound> from Stamford on the interstate) and head to the Tourism Welcome Center inside where all the restaurants are. There they have plenty of visitor's guides, brochures, and maps (all are free). You can also ask the Tourism Counselor for suggestions of places to see and things to do in CT.

For events in downtown Stamford, if you walk around downtown you will see these bins with free magazines in them. I don't remember the name of the magazine, but you should check them out and pick the magazine with all the events taking place in Stamford. They publish that magazine monthly, so might want to check those bins as you think fits your desire of knowing what's going on. There is one bin (I think its black) in front of the CVS on Forest Street in downtown, whenever I get my sample of that magazine its usually from that particular bin but I do it sporadically through the year.

Welcome to Stamford and Connecticut!

Welcome to CT. This site is a good resource. I have lived in CT all of my life (born and raised in Stamford) but I still use this site.

I'd walk around Bedford, Summer and Atlantic streets downtown for tons of restaurants, bars, movie theatre, mall, coffee shops, etc. The harbor area also has lots of restaurants and some bars, and a pretty setting.

The Stamford Nature Center and Kids U are nice if you have kids.

Sterling Farms is a beautiful golf course.

Cove Beach is one of the town beaches, not sure if there's another.

Don't know of a museum, but there's Bruce Museum in neighboring Greenwich, near Greenwich Ave.

Coastal FFC restaurant scene is the finest in the state only rivaled by downtown New Haven. The DMVs are atrocious.

In neighboring Greenwich, the Greenwich Avenue district is good for a stroll and lunch. About 50 stores, restaurants, etc. Very upscale.

Stamford is known for its international culinary scene (and non chain restaurants). Some suggestions

South American -- Brasitas
Indian -- Coramandel
Italian -- Columbus Park or Cafe Sylvim
Mexican -- Paloma or Food Truck at Jackie Robinson Park
Japanese -- Fin II
French -- go to Greenwich, L'escale
Latin -- Cilantro
Chinese -- Pearl East
Austrailian -- Flinders Lane (will be opening next year in Summer House)
Ethiopian -- Teff
Israeli -- Tabuli

As for American

The pizza at Colony (a local institution) Thin crust Connecticul style. Recommend the hot oil with sausage. Also the Luigi Bianco at Fortina is arguably the best gourmet pizza in town.

The gourmet burger at Harlan Social is one of the best in the state.

For Steaks, Capitol Grille. (even though it's a chain.)

Lobster and Lobster Roll -- Boothbay Lobster Company (In CT we like the lobster roll served warm with butter, not chilled with mayo)

BBQ -- Dinosaur

Sandwiches -- Seasons

Dive Bar -- Casey's

Special Occasion -- Napa & Co

Seafood -- F.I.S.H.(The other restaurants on Bedford Street are B plus... more of a millenial mating scene than outstanding food.)

Ice Cream -- Sunny Daes

Nearby New Canaan is also a culinary hot spot. Great strolling downtown.
