Hi! Please Advise!!

According to our bills, we pay between $300-$400 if we turn the heat on for 2 days in a month. If we dont have the heat on, it still averages to $250 per month. Furthermore, it says we are using 80 gallons of oil per month. We are 2 people living in a small 2 bedroom apartment each taking 10-15 minute showers. The oil heats the water. Is it realistically feasible that we can burn SOOO much oil in a month????

We dont have the heat on!!!!! Our apartment is frigid cold, what is going on????? The oil people came by and said that everything looked fine and that there was no leak. I have my suspiscions, however.

WHAT CAN I DO!?!?!!? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Our apartment has gas heating, not oil, so I can't say for certain, but that does seem high to me. Our gas bill for our one bedroom apartment in New Haven is between $30 and $40 a month when we don't use the heat. We've never had a gas bill higher than $60 and are extremely conservative with our gas usage - it sounds like you are, too. Perhaps one of the other posters who knows more about oil costs could comment on this?

When you say you don't have the heat on, do you mean literally not on ever, or just on very low? Do you have a washing machine? Dishwasher? We keep our thermostat very low, between 60-62 during the day, and between 56-58 at night. Our house is about 1700 square feet, and our water heater is oil-fired. We use about 125 gallons of oil during a typical winter month. I recently had our tank filled at $2.45 a gallon.
