One of the nice things about Cookeville is it's safe for kids. There aren't problems with gangs or things like that.

There are all kinds of sports leagues for kids in Cookeville, at the schools, the YMCA, and through the city and county leisure services departments. There's also community theater, choruses, and of course dances organized at the schools. Cookeville High School is something like the 5th largest high school in the state, so it has all kinds of clubs and organizations to keep teenagers busy.

In your earlier message you asked about jobs and land. You can definitely find 5 acres or so outside of Cookeville where you can see the stars at night and ride your ATVs to your heart's content. However, be sure you stick with property in Putnam County because if you live outside the county, your kids can't go to Putnam County schools (well, not legally at any rate).

You said your husband could get a job as a trucker, and that's a good thing. Averitt Express is a huge trucking company that's headquartered in Cookeville, and a few weeks ago Con-Way Truckload announced they're opening a new training center in Cookeville and will hire 250 new truckers in the area within the next couple of years. So I hope that means your husband won't have any problems finding a job as a trucker if he wants.

Good luck!

Thank you so much JMT!! That was what I was looking for! We plan on visiting this summer and moving in the fall if possible. One last question - When does School start there? I was looking at the calendar and it seems to start in July or August? Ends in what May? I wonder because we start mid September and go until June 20th or so.

Putnam County schools do a "balanced calendar" schedule.Basically it's 9 weeks on,2 weeks off. They start around the first of August every year and get out around the end of May.Have a two week break in March and two weeks in October. Then have June & July off.
Last year they actually started July 31 which is way too early for me.Still too hot.Of course we had an abnormally hot August last year with a record number of 100 degree days.Surely this year won't be so bad.
