He should have got 5 years and a solid ass-kicking. Assuming the brief description of the event is accurate, that's just some cold-blooded mess that he was involved in. Truly senseless.

I would have been happier with the sentence if he got what you suggested. He and the others involved should have been charged with attempted murder and possibly a hate crime. The beating that Steven Utash received was horrific. Videos have shown that up to 11 people were involved with his beating. They continually kicked and stomped him while he was down, and also robbed him. If a local resident wouldn't have interviened when she did (using a firearm) he most likely would have died. The sentences that the 4 received were a joke.
I still haven't figured out how it works. You can look at the same family where kids were beaten when they were little. And that turns some of them into very mean people, indeed.
Then another kid in the same family will vow to never hit another person in his life because he knows how it feels.
So beating a child for doing wrong sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
Is the judge an advocator for beating children or was he just expressing his outrage in the most extreme way he could? I'd suggest the latter.

Give me a break. And the progressive liberal way of childing rearing is currently working , yeah right ? Please..
I don't really think anyone here is advocating child abuse and or having your children fearing you. It is a respect thing. Growing up I got my fair share of spankings as a younger child and what that created in my early and late teens was a respect for my parents, they didn't have to "beat" me and I wasn't afraid of them but I did respect the fact that if I acted out my parents weren't afraid to hand out an ass whooping. Know one can respect a push over , and I see kids now growing up with no respect for their parents, other adults and themselves.
