+1 for Ms Dawson.
Her honesty and sunny outlook are refreshing. There are a lot of diseases out there that have a social stigma, as if the person who finds themselves with the affliction MUST have done something terribly wrong to get that disease.
I remember genital herpes first popping up during the post-Viet Nam war era, as if it was something the soldiers brought home with them. Its easy to believe that, given all the ailments associated with exposure to chemicals like Agent Orange and Napalm. But, looking at the stats in the article, it seems that association may be unwarranted. Who knows where it came from, but it seems its a common part of life now.
I was once a medical assistant for a Dermatologist who specialized in Venerealogy. I remember one case of a woman who only had it under her breasts, as if she had somehow contracted it from her bra. Which is like, how the heck??
At any rate, the best way to fight a problem, and to secure a cure, is to bring it out of the dark and into the light. I have a lot of respect for anyone that isnt afraid to do that.
