"Financial security has been elusive for millions of Americans since the Great Recession ended. A new report (pdf) from the Federal Reserve demonstrates one way that this insecurity can manifest itself for people.
As part of its October 2014 survey, the agency asked 50,000 people if they could handle an unexpected “financial disruption” costing them $400. Just over half (53%) said they could “fairly easily handle such an expense” by using money in their bank accounts (checking or savings) or by leaning on a credit card.
But for 47% of respondents, $400 was a tougher problem to handle. Within this group, 14% said they simply couldn’t cover it. Another 10% would have to sell something, 13% would have to borrow money from a friend or relative and 2% would have to resort to a high-interest payday loan.
This finding was buried within the Fed report that otherwise offered a rosier outlook on the state of Americans’ financial status."
It's probably the same people who think that tax return money is free money and they p$ss it away.
Why not just go to Target and get a Track Phone for $30, right there is a savings. And buy the phone cards and pay as you go, you can a lot of minutes for less than $50 a month. For $35 you can get 200 minutes of talk time.
Right there is a few hundred dollars in savings over a year's time.
The library is free, most libraries allow two hours a day of Internet use.
It's hard not to notice people in low income jobs not having smart phones, because I have lost track of the number of times I see them staring into their phones while at work. You know when they're supposed to be working.
My local Target has a security guard, this woman is always on her phone, I think someone could walk but with a flat screen unpaid for and she wouldn't notice.
It's the mindset today, I have to have it, even if I can't afford it and don't really need it.
what the heck..I'm not arguing with your figures, I was disputing someone's claim that low income people are buying iphone 6's and expensive data plans. I merely said that what I'm seeing, in lower income areas in Sacramento are Boost or Cricket wireless stores on every other block they are there for a reason, right? And that's because at least a good number of lower income folks are buying low cost smartphones and cheap plans. As far as the library, that's a little silly..unless you are in an urban area there's an excellent chance you will need to drive or take public transportation to a library and in most of them you have to wait to use a computer, a totally unnecessary expense with a smart phone you can access the internet from that.
If it costs $150 monthly and that person is crying poor mouth it demonstrates a lack of priorities. No one needs anything more than a flip phone. Want and need are different when it comes time to pay. Entitled people want everything and tend to overstep their needs.
If I need a new pair of blue jeans I can drive to the nearest thrift store and get near new ones for $5. It beats going to "insert store here" and spending $30 for a pair of pre washed ones. It is basically the same. Why do I need a brand new pair to work in the yard or on my vehicles? I saw jeans at a dept store on sale 2 for $100. I can eff up a pair of jeans within a month. If I merely washed and wore them, they look like the thrift store pair in two months time just from wear and tear. I can eat with the $25 dollars I didn't spend on jeans.
where did you come up with $150? I'm not seeing even contract plans for that much unless they are family plans with several phones on them. And how did the price of jeans get into this discussion?
It is like talking to a wall trying to get a point across to you. I asked if you read her post or JUMPED ON THE NUMBER. Obviously, you jumped on the number she used (incorrect number) which was not the entire point of her post. You just want to keep arguing the minutiae.
Ok, let's try this again. the number she cited was obviously wrong, but was not my issue- THIS sentence is what I was talking about:
I am not taking about the 50 tech workers who must have done something wrong to lose their jobs to H1B Indian workers this week.
750 people replaced by non-citizens and she claims they must have done something wrong to lose their job...

Unreal...do you agree with the OP, did 750 skilled tech workers must have done something wrong to lose their jobs?
Absolutely not. It wasn't me who pulled such pointless blow.
But at least there is no dispute as to what you have doing after 43 posts. Next time, try to stick to was was posting instead of making up nonsense.

The TOS, since you bring it up says no personal attacks. I assume then that you will stop it hence forth.
