The man shot and killed by an F.B.I. agent and a Boston police officer Tuesday had been under surveillance by terrorism investigators because he was planning to behead a police officer, the authorities say.
The man, Usaama Rahim, 26, was approached by officers outside a CVS pharmacy in the city’s Roslindale neighborhood around 7 a.m. Officials said that after the officers identified themselves, Mr. Rahim confronted them with a large military-style knife and the two officers opened fire. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/04/us...-say.html?_r=0
of course his brother - who is a 'respected imam' - claims he was shot 3 times in the back
That article is more interesting for what it doesn't say than what it does. They don't say anything about what led them to believe he was planning to behead a cop, why he was under 24 hour surveillance or why they decided this was the right time to approach him when they had been watching him for some time.
They also don't say what charges the other guy was booked on. I wonder if this is going to be one of those Patriot Act detentions where they can lock you up almost indefinitely with no official charges filed?
Interesting stuff. Doubt we will ever get the full story.

I don't care about the minutiae. He charged at them with a knife, they blew him away. That's ok by me! Personally, I wouldn't have minded them shooting a radical Muslim just on general principles, even if he didn't lunge at them.

I'll bet the moron said something about his plans on the Internet.
Unfortunately there will still be those that believe the brother's version of events despite the clear evidence to the contrary, because that's what you do when you have an agenda. It's been happening a lot lately.

They claim the brother egged him on in his internet posts.
There may be more on the case when they file a criminal complaint against the brother the imam. They usually lay out a lot more detail.
It's unclear whether the knife he brandished was one of the military-style knives he purchased on Amazon, not that it matters if he really came after an officer.
It sounds like this was the result of another FBI sting operation to get people to commit crimes. The FBI was involved with him for nearly three years. There was a third person named in the police affidavit of the shooting who was talking to Usaama Rahim about plans to carry out an attack. This person may have been an undercover informant who often provide plots and targeting information to the subject of the sting. In the affidavit, the officer stated that some details were being left out. The document was not a criminal complaint which have provide to more detail to substantiate pressing charges. The joint FBI-BPD task force was very quick in confronting Rahim once the meeting with the third person confidante and the ordering of the knives had completed. Lastly, the FBI stated that the public was never in danger from this person. This is usually codeword for a sting operation where the FBI controls all aspects of the plot.
just wanted to say "of course" to everything, of course his brother is a "respected imam" and of course he wanted to behead a law enforcement officer for doing what law enforcement officers do.
really wish we could just deport all these monsters, they don't fit in to our society and they have no plans to assimilate to our culture. their backwards "religious" ideology (Islam) is their top priority in life. they need to be sent packing to an Islamic country
