There has been a lot of discussion and I know some cities, states, and countries are planning or have already banned plastic straws. What do you think? I think they should because it seems like they are getting wasted more often.

I don't think they should be banned, but I think there should be a concerted effort by restaurants AND consumers to make them less prevalent. Dine in establishments should switch to paper straws. To go cups should utilize sip lids (such as S'bux is switching to). And consumers should really consider not using straws (when dining in) and look into the options for carrying reusable straws and utensils (particularly women most of whom certainly have something to transport them in.
I am all about being green. However, with that said, what is the huge concentration on plastic straws? What about plastic bags, plastic sandwich bags, plastic bottles, plastic packaging, plastic cups, etc--none of those end up in the Ocean? Just a bunch of plastic straws? Just for the record, I have never seen a plastic straw in the Ocean.
Doesn't bother me to get rid of the plastic straws...
