They are looking to place corpses in a fetal position in a bio degradable pod which they will bury and plant a tree on top of the pod.

There is a company in the US that is selling biodegradable pods for pet burial.

I want a natural burial, but there's a problem with this. When the tree is eventually cut down, there will still be human remains in the tree stump. I suppose the whole thing can be ground up an cremated, but the person should have this planned out beforehand.

Not sure what the laws are in all places in the US, but my understanding is that a person has to be embalmed if their body is not cremated or buried within 24 hours. Some places require a casket to be placed into another container or vault before being buried so the embalming chemicals don't get into the groundwater. I guess this pod would be allowable if you could get the paperwork done and the body in the ground fast enough. Ashes to ashes and dust to dust. Eventually, we'll all be food for microorganisms or a tree anyway. I don't have a problem with it. I do genealogy and still like the thought of having a headstone regardless of what else happens to my body.

The company in the OP is in Italy and the laws do not allow it yet.

I understand they are in Italy. I was thinking through what would happen here.

Not all places here in the US would require a vault for burial. The biodegradable pod wouldn't be that much different from a cardboard casket which to my understanding is allowed in some places. I don't know that for a fact, but I remember Casket rentals and cardboard boxes as part of a discussion during a Death and Dying Class I took in college years ago.

I recall an episode of the New Twilight Zone (1990s version), where troublesome teens were turned into trees. The family of the troubled teen would then refer to the tree by the name of their former child/sibling. Life imitates Art.

When a friend of mine died she was cremated and her ashes were spread throughout the woods where she liked to hike along with the ashes of her beloved very old cat who had also died within days of her death.
