This story is really weird. When is a fourteen month old given general anesthesia for routine dental procedures? This doesn't sound like it is within the standard of care. If there is a justification for doing the procedure this way, I'd like to know what it is.
I was almost 40 years old, and I was killed on the table during surgery when they gave me just a tiny bit too much anesthesia. It wasn't my first or last procedure, but luckily they were able to revive me. At least IF you are going to die, doing it in a hospital is the best place for possible survival odds.
My chest HURT for an entire year after that though...
Anesthesiologists are the most important persons in the room during a surgery. When you are put under a general, you are being taken right to the threshold between life and death.
When my son was 3 they did general on him to fix 2 teeth that had enamel problems (because of a virus gotten in utero). While they were in there, with a general, they did some extra work (mostly clipping a tied tongue). My kid wasnt the youngest, by far, in for surgery that day. It isn't unusual. I feel so sad for the parents, but it happens...very sadly.
PS If they didn't repair those two teeth, hi whole mouth would have been out of whack. Th 2 teeth would have quickly rotted, causing a host of problems. Health and dental.
OK ........ so when was the last time that any of you heard of a 14 month old baby getting fillings in baby teeth??
A lot of folks have anesthesia in a Dental Clinic -- be aware that it's a lot more dangerous than you think and be especially careful IF you have never had anesthesia before. I had it when I had my wisdom teeth removed - the same doctor had 2 patients die in the chair several years later.
This is exactly why it's a good idea to have stringent checks on "clinics".

My son had surgery on his baby teeth. My nephew did too.
Maybe it was bad medicine. But it isn't automatically bad medicine. An investigation is warranted. But its too soon to jump in and make a judgement.
As an aside, I was a poor kid with state paid dental. I got lots of work that wasnt needed. Lots! If this is the case, then its terrible. If they didn't follow protocol, then they are awful. But all can be done the right way and this can still happen.
Lets wait and see what the reports say before casting judgement.
Is this the same story that was posted a month or so ago??
YES.... ITS VERY SAD
