Adblock Plus is launching a new service that... uh, puts more ads on your screen.
Rather than stripping all ads from the internet forever, Adblock Plus is hoping to replace the bad ads — anything it deems too big, too ugly, or too intrusive — with good ads, ones that are smaller, subtler, and theoretically much less annoying.
The creator of ABP sold out. From what I understand, I could be wrong but, he sold out and sold ABP to another company, then felt guilty about it and created Ublock Origin.
Nothing enormously new about that. For years they've been allowing companies to pay them to allow their ads through. If you take that in a favorable light, it's screening out the obnoxious ads that people really have issues with. I always saw it as a combination of that along with a healthy of dose of ransomware. The only thing that's changed is instead of just charging advertisers for approved ads, they'll now also be making their own approved ads. That's really not any different in my mind.
