This isn't about physical challenges. It is about vanity. These should be morality tales. I know I'm in the minority, but I really do not understand this obsession people have with taking photos of themselves.

The picture in the Wikipedia article is at a Japanese train station, yet the English lettering is much bigger than the Japanese. This tells me that American (or maybe British or Australian) tourists are more apt to need to be warned against using selfie sticks than are the Japanese residents of the area.

There's definitely an unflattering comparison to be made between Americans and Japanese here.
