An international burglary ring from Chile hitting wealthy neighborhoods including several in California. Described as well trained and are using electronics
Some time ago, I read about South Americans who traveled to Cali, and stole credit cards from purses, hung from chair backs in Panera. They would lift wallets without being noticed, take them to the nearest shop, and buy gift cards. When they got enough for their purposes, they flew home.
It sounds as if these burglars are a cut above the those guys.
It would be terrifying and enraging to come home to a robbed and destroyed bedroom. Thieves don’t care. They want what they want.
What's a "visa waiver program"? Sounds like a loophole that needs to be closed.
The visa waiver program allows tourists from certain nations to come to the U.S. without having to apply for tourist visas which are often costly and time-consuming to obtain. It's based on reciprocity, so U.S. tourists can enter those countries without a visa as well. The program encompasses many European nations and a few select non-European nations (Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, NZ, Australia, Japan, Brunei and Chile).
Generally speaking nations in this program must be seen as geopolitically friendly and strategically important for the U.S. and/or not have a history of citizens using this program to enter and then never leave i.e. go illegal.
If the U.S. removed a country from this list, U.S. tourists going there would likely be hit with punitive requirements in return.
Why even bother putting any effort into anything? They can just be illegals, and get free handouts. They dont need to actually do the due diligence for a successful heist or anything. They dont even need to be skilled in anything including something illegal. California just giving it away. These burglars truly dun goofed.

Because they don't want to live like illegals. They're used to living in a higher style. And they don't want to have to trudge across a god-forsaken desert in insufferable heat to get here as illegals. Why should they? They don't have to; they don't even need visas to arrive in style.

"..obtain cash, safes, designer clothing and hand-bags, and jewelry..."
Same story for druggies breaking in to grab prescription drugs. If they hit our house, I imagine it will be a huge dissapointment to come out empty handed.

So they want to live like criminals? That so much better, I forget.

Miami is the US gateway for most flights from SA. No shortage of wealthy enclaves in the greater Miami area and far more domestic and international tourists that the SF Bay Area to rob.
I wonder what led LE to suspect Chileans.
