It also caused him to lose part of his leg. I didn't understand that, either. But I will accept that this was the result of the acid she attacked him with. There's no other explanation. He (and his girlfriend that attacked him) were both HIV positive, so that could have been a mitigating factor that made healing from his injuries worse? Perhaps that's what caused him to lose his leg. I don't know.

yup causing a death is definitely manslaughter and either first or second degree murder- it was definitely premeditated and she did not care about the consequences for him.

I don't know whether or not the 'degrees' of charges are the same there as here, but if she had not intended to kill him it would be murder in the 2nd, perhaps?
But even then, she was an indirect cause of his death when considered dispassionately, which the law is supposed to do.
What I've always had problem with is the reverse...lesser penalties for attempted murder.
Just because you failed you get off when some poor ******* gets charged with murder for "accidently' killing someone in a bar fight?
One similarity here is with intent.

(That wasn't even a 'bad' word!)
