I really think road bikes are way faster than a hybrid, but I don’t own a hybrid to compare this. But I already have a big bike collection and I think I shouldn’t buy a hybrid just to compare the ride. Currently, I was thinking of between these two hybrids:

KHS Bicycles :: Urban Xpress

New Womens Specific Aluminum Road Racing Mixte Bike Shimano Bikes | eBay

Locally, the KHS is on Sale for $465 after tax. It’s 28 lbs 5 oz, the Dawes ebay bike is 23 lbs without pedals.

But do you have a hybrid and road bike in your collection? How do they compare in avg speed, cruising speed, and going the distance for a long distance ride?

Now hybrid bikes are kinda heavy, but you can put 700c x 23 tires on them still, but usually they come stock with 28 to 35 mm tires. – I guess these wide width tires are kinda slow?

I was thinking I should get the ebay bike because it’s $200 cheaper and weighs 5 lbs less as it’s frame is aluminum, but it's rear is a 7 speed whereas the KHS is 9 speed cassette. Plus the KHS just looks better in black.

If I put a flat bar, shorter stem on a road bike it in essence becomes a hybrid. Do you prefer grip shift or the rapid fire style. Are there braze ons for panniers? What level of groupo does it come with, bike weight for a hybrid is not real high on my list of what makes me buy one. I do like the more upright seating allowed with a purpose built hybrid for bombing to and from work. As far as bike speed that is usually up to the engine.
