So I finally moved to Dallas TX a little over two months ago to a town called Coppell, TX from Ohio.

A few days ago I got a speeding ticket for $247.10!! The officer said that I was going 50 in a 35, but I was only going 40mph. He was 50ft ahead of me when he clocked me. In all of my years of driving I have never had received a ticket. Does this sound right? TIA

Holy smokes! Were you in a school zone?! Most cops now have rearward facing radar. Some have laser facing backwards. It should say on your ticket.

When he asked why he pulled you over, I hope you said no.

who knows--
unless you can PROVE that you were driving the speed you say you only have your word vs his and I guess he has the "evidence" of his radar check...
get an attorney if you want to challenge
or educate yourself about the costs associated with taking a defensive drive course or deferred adjudication

Take the defensive driving course. It will also give you a 10% discount on your liability insurance!

Thank you all for your responses. Sorry for the delay. No I was not in a school district and I have no way of proving anything. I was in a driving with a pack of other cars and it was no one I knew, so I have no witnesses.

Welcome to Coppell Cops here love to give speeding tickets and very rarely do they let you off.

But here's a question---if you were going 50 (along with traffic) and he was in front of you, doesn't that mean he was going just as fast??!!

Where did he stop you?

if there were a "pack" of cars --3 or 4 within close proximity to your car than that is the questionable area to me
I thought they had to have certain amount of separation between vehicles before "shooting" a sight on a violator...

I think that may have been the case with radar but I don't think it matters if he was using laser.

OP you'll pretty much just have to pay the ticket. You can try to have an attorney get it dismissed if you think it's worth the trouble but it's still your word against his. Guess who the judge will side with? I'd see if the court allows deferred adjudication.
