New store openings keep Dallas area a major retail hub | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News | Dallas Business News
I think people commenting on this article fail to appreciate what is happenning. A city doesn't wake up all at one time. Unfortunately, the prime areas are the first to wake up and then the recovery spreads from there. So, this article is good news.
To further appreciate the city of Dallas and the depth it has in retail, all one has to do is take a look along Highway 67 in Oak Cliff. While Hispanic in characteristic, still blossoming along Jefferson Blvd. is a vibrant retail center. Further to the southwest, I've always felt that Wynwood Shopping Center at the corner of Highway 67 and Illinois is a beautiful even timeless classic. It is certainly difficult to guess its age. Even further at 67 and I-20, the old Redbird Mall area is going through a revisional process. How well it does depends on how much the city of Dallas interferes with its social agenda. More on that in a moment.
Finally, further out on 67 in Cedar Hill, another impressive retail center is developing.
Once again, the citizens of Dallas take their city for granted. While much of the area I just mentioned is considered a crime infested neighborhood, even in the distressed areas the retail exists on many levels.
Now, in comparison, why doesn't 175 have any retail? I think the answer is that the area has too much of a "social agenda."
