Just got back from another tropical beach vacation and now I am finally going to bite the bullet and do what I have said I'd do for a long time.

We have a huge backyard, but it's kinda lacking in personality.

I want to build one of those indoor/outdoor living spaces with a kitchen and nice places to lounge or eat or socialize.

I need to know who the best, most reputable contractors are. I will pay more to get quality and peace of mind...not some lame fly-by-night nickel-and-dime operation.

Or just someone you really trust and did a good job.

Thanks.

Ditto...I am thinking of screening/glazing in my patio and removing the carport from my property. I'm sure the carport was built because the previous owners turned the garage into living space but I turned it back into a garage so the carport is not really needed. I like having covered outdoor space but I figure I can just as easily (and more comfortably) get it with a screened-in patio.

So whoever gets recommended to you is going to get a call from me too!

Yeah, I tried just looking up stuff on line, but there are a lot of places whose web pages don't exist anymore...then there was this one guy who was on D Magazine's 'Best of' list, but no one ever answered the phone...bullsh*t...I am not doing business with someone I can't even contact.

The Texas Board of Architectural Examiners (TBAE) regulates Landscape Architects, Architects and Interior Designers. Google their name and you can locate professionals who are licensed. Licensed professionals are more than likely to carry errors and ommission insurance. Here is a name I came up with on the site:

www.archiverdi-us.com

What you might run into is that a lot of these firms tend to do more commercial projects. Another company I would call would be Lamberts. Lamberts is a Dallas institution. They have licensed Landscape Architects on their staff as well. Here is their info:
