I used to do Skywarn tornado spotting when I lived in the midwest, so I stay connected to the state Skywarn group even though we rarely see severe weather down here in San Antonio. The head of Skywarn Texas made the following plea to spotters in the state today.

Quote:
The latest computer model data suggests a very scary weather scenario in and or near the DFW metro by 7pm. Please pay attention to the weather warnings today (even if you normally ignore them) today/tonight is no joke!
This is a look at the maps he's talking about: Hazardous Weather Decision Support, NWS Tulsa, OK

This is what the Weather Service is saying:

Quote:
THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE NWS SPC IS NOW PREDICTING A 45% CHANCE OF TORNADOES ACROSS NW TEXAS & THE RED RIVER VALLEY. SOME OF THESE TORNADOES WILL BE STRONG TO DEVASTATING IN STRENGTH. THE NWS SPC HAS INCREASED THE TORNADO THREAT TO 15% ACROSS THE DFW METRO WITH SOME OF THESE TORNADOES STRONG TO DEVASTATING IN NATURE.

*THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS WEATHER SITUATION. PERSON FROM WICHITA FALLS TO GAINESVILLE TO DALL/FORT WORTH TO ABILENE NEED TO BE PREPARED THIS AFTERNOON FOR THESE STORMS.
After seeing what happened in Joplin and Tuscaloosa this month, if I lived in your area, I'd be watching the skies today and having a plan in place to take cover and protect my family for sure.

The map shows the tornado outbreak is expected in Oklahoma, not Dallas.

Granted, most of the maps' purple area where tornadoes are most likely for the outbreak is in Oklahoma. It does extend across the river into Dallas and covers a few other Texas counties in the area.

This is a very dangerous situation. PLEASE take precautions! They are calling for the possibility of supercell thunderstorms, large hail, and some strong tornadoes. Although much of it will be north of the metroplex, we are still included in the dangerous "moderate risk" area. stay alert
