My family and I are moving to the Dallas area due to my husbands job. Can anyone tell me what areas are good to live in? Our son will be starting preschool soon so we want to be in a good school district. We will be renting a place so we are looking for an area that is not too expensive, but not a dangerous part of the city.
Also can anyone tell me about the CHIP program for children, I mean how good or bad it is.

Thanks

What is your price range and where will you be working? This is a large area of two big cities and suburbs covering several counties and 6.3 million people.

My husband is a truck driver so it doesnt really matter what part of Dallas we live in for his job. Our price range is no more than $800/month for rent.

You could get a two bedroom apartment in Garland in that price range. I've lived at The Courtyard Apartments for almost five years. There is no charge for water/garbage collection here. They come in and change your smoke detector batteries, and A/C filter every so often. It's not a particularly large complex so you get to know your neighbors.

For a 25 year old complex, its very well maintained. My only complaint is the appliances are old. Anyways its located at 2046 N. Shiloh Rd, and the ZIP is 75044.

190 and 75 are both within a 5-10 minute drive, 635 is a little further down but not far at all. All three are straight shot down the road in different directions.

There are a couple good preschools nearby, and a Pre-K center around the corner. There's probably half a dozen elementary schools that are less then a five minute drive from here.

The biggest crime problem in the area are car break ins. I take my dog out late at night and have never had a problem.

I just checked and a 2 bedroom, 2 bath is $850 month, but its nearly 1000sq feet.

I hear CHIP is pretty good. The child has to have had no insurance for 90 days to be eligible and then there are income limits.
