Which air conditioning unit do you guys/gals recommend and is there a local company you recommend for installation? One of the units on my house died and poor landlord is really confused about it as he obviously want to install a good one to last long without much repair needs but still not overly expensive. He wants to sell the house by 2015 and it's a luxury property so something reasonable to satisfy buyer.

Trane and Carrier are widely regarded as having some of the more reliable units out there. However, proper system maintenance is key for ANY system that's installed.

Good advice..And on the other end of the price spectrum is Goodman, which in my opinion is a great value..Friend had two installed 8 years ago never had any issues whatsoever. Wish I spent less actually.

It's between Lenox & Goodman now. Landlord wants to go with Goodman but his repair company is suggesting Lenox.

I just bought a Goodman for our house. No complaints thus far...good warranty coverage, too.

Goodman is a builders a/c but more important than the brand is who you have to service it. I use Dalco an older Company and keep a contract that saves money on 2 times a year maintenance which is necessary to keep your system in tip top shape. I have also found them to be trustworthy.

Even more important when you buy a new system is to take the time to check out that you are getting the right size and your ventilation and air ducts are set up for optimum performance.

Good Luck. I intend to replace mine next winter and will consider Trane, Carrier and Lennox depending on the deal I can get.
