This might be a dumb question, but when searching for most homes, I do not see a garage, even though the description has it. Does anyone know where the garage is on the house below as an example?

It's probably off the kitchen at the rear of the house. No front driveway means it has a back entry with an alley. Try searching the address on google maps, then zooming in with satellite view. It'll show you the driveway.

That house has a 2 car garage with a rear alley entry.

BTW, it's a short sale which will require extra work and usually a longer time to close.

You might use Realtor.com over Trulia... it is much more up to date.

I bounce between Zillow and Realtor. As mentioned, Realtor will have much more up to date and more detailed information on the status of the house. For instance, Realtor.com will tell you when the house has Option or Contingent agreement going while Zillow will simply say it's still for sale.

But I like Zillow's favorite mapping feature so that I can see how the houses I'm interested in plot around my future job location. Zillow also shows the pictures as large as possible.

And I also always take a look at the house with the satellite view on Google Maps.

Some people like alleys (for garage entrance) and others hate them. It makes for a clean looking front of the house, but not so good when people instead park at the curb in the streets. A lot of people think it is inconvenient to always have to get to their garage via a narrow alley. Many alleys are not kept up and become messy with overgrown bushes, wind-blown trash, etc., not to mention the unfriendly/unneighborly atmosphere of everyone's backyard being fenced with solid board fencing in nicer neighborhoods. Personally, I do not like garage entrance via an alley...but that's just me.

Thanks for the replys!

It seems like most of the new builds have the garage in the front, and the older homes have them in the back or alley.

Whether a home has a front entry garage often has to do with the economics of the house and the size of the lot, not just the age of the house. The million dollar homes in Preston Hollow generally do not have front entry (they may have side entry or they may have rear entry (either with an alley or not).

I have an alley and I love it. Garages are generally the least attractive part of the house- why do you want to see them? Of course, alleys can interfere with seeing your neighbors when everyone parks in front.

I prefer J swing style over rare & front. Circular driveways are cool too, as long as they aren't just an decorative element with garage in the rare. However, none is a deal breaker for me.
