What is the likelihood of being able to rent an apartment in Dallas with five cats? I'm looking to move there in the next year or so and have been in my current apartment since 2001, so I'm sure I could get a reference from my current landlord if that would help.

Most apartment complexes I've ever lived in have had a two pet maximum from what I remember, either two cats, two dogs, or a 50lb max weight for a pet.

I think you'd have better luck looking at condos for rent by owner or something, because most apartments are going to have the pet situation pretty clearly spelled out and I doubt you'll find a place that would let you live there with 5 cats.

Maybe references from your previous owner would be of help but most landlords roughly allows two pets and I don't know on having 5 cats - I bet it will be more complicated but not impossible. Trying to negotiate with your landlord is always the best way to have it.

I found a site that allowed you to search by number of cats or dogs but my computer crashed before I bookmarked it. Does this sound familiar to anyone here?
