Moving to Dallas from the UK! Please help :) (Fort Worth, Plano: renting, neighborhoods)

Hi

My husband has been offered an amazing opportunity to come and work in Dallas Texas. We currently are living in the UK with our 2 beautiful adopted children. Unfortunately due to the children s early traumatic start in life, they have to deal with a lot of things we take for granted, My daughter particularly. She currently has a statement of educational needs and receives 22 hours 1:1 support a week in her current main stream school. She is diagnosed with Global Development Delay and Attachment disorder. She has come such a long way but will still need support in her new school.

I am completely over whelmed with everything that is happening and am absolutely terrified. I have spent Hours, days, weeks researching, i cant not sleep and just want the best for the children.

My husband will be initially based in fort worth but moving to Denton in 2016, so i have been looking between these two areas. I really am looking for an ISD that has a good special needs programme, that hopefully has experience with Attachment disorder. Research suggests Frisco, Plano, Allen are good ISD for special needs, although a bit far maybe. I have looked into NorthWest ISD, Denton and Aubery.

Please if you have any advice, information or could point me in the right direction, that would be fantastic.

I forgot to say that we will be renting initially, with a budget of upto $1700 month.

You need to post on the Fort Worth forum since FW and Denton are on the other side of the metroplex. There is absolutely NO need to look at Plano / Frisco / Allen due to your husband's commute. Living in those cities would put him in the car commuting 2-3 hours per day. The average commute in the DFW area is less than 1 hour per day and since there are good schools and neighborhoods all over, that is easy to find.

Those are average commutes by car, which is the normal method here. Denton has a limited number of bus routes and a train which runs to North Carrollton and then connects on to downtown Dallas. Dallas has three rail lines running roughly north to south, but almost nothing east to west (the lines only intersect downtown). There is also a commuter train between Dallas and Fort Worth. Bus service is more extensive in Dallas and Fort Worth, but far less common than in London and even most major cities in England. Some of the suburbs between Fort Worth and Denton have no access to public transport at all, so if that's how you get around in the UK, you'll need to take that in mind.

Not true. My friend commutes Frisco to Denton. Takes 30-40 minutes. Just use 380.

I have a friend's kid who is developmentally delayed and goes to Frisco ISD school. I have personally seen how the kid has improved over the years and would recommend Frisco. The only problem in your case will be the commute to Fort Worth. Denton is manageable from Frisco especially if you are in the North west side of the town.

Frisco to Fort Worth is at least an hour, and closer to 1.5 hours each way. If there is a wreck or rain, it can take 2 hours! Plus, part of the drive is on a toll road.

I have a former coworker who made this commute for 3 years, and she recently quit because she couldn't stand the commute.
