Hello,

I will be moving to Dallas in a few months (single, in my 30s) and since I'm from Canada and have never been to Dallas before, I am really struggling with finding an apartment. Here are my requirements(hopes!):

1) Safe, quiet neighbourhood, close to supermarket, preferably an area that would be great to walk through
2) studio or 1 bdrm apartment, less than $900
3) close to area code 75231, I do not have a car and would like to live less than an hour walk or ~30 min transit ride from home to work (work near walnut hill lane and n central expressway)
4) preferably an apartment with a pool, def with ac (being from Canada, I will probably not tolerate the year long heat well :P)

If anyone could give some advice, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!

I don't have any specific apartment building recommendations, but I would get as close to a DART line as possible since you won't have a car. The orange and red lines are very close to Walnut/75, and the blue line is in the vicinity as well. You do not want to walk an hour to work. It might not be hot when you arrive in a few months, but walking that far to work is not a good, long-term plan.

Also, all apartments and stores have A/C here. Don't worry about that.

Unfortunately, that part of Dallas is not very walkable. (There are really only a few areas in Dallas that are walkable)
I agree that you should try to find something as close to the DART line as possible. You should be able to find the DART maps online.

Be cautious in that area. There is a large cluster of apartments right in middle of that zip code right behind the WalMart off of Park Lane. (off of Park Ln, between Abrams & Greenville) I would not consider that area safe in any way.

Do you plan to get a car? Dallas is a tough city to live in without a car. Don't worry about A/C. Everyone has it down here!
Good luck with your move.

you will need a vehicle. I cannot stress strongly enough that you will need a car or motorcycle/scooter in Dallas. Public transit is not a total solution for living here.
