Hubs is being transferred to Dallas and his office is smack in the middle of downtown right off the 75. We have 5 kids and need a recommendation as to where to look. I'm a SAHM, and hubs is willing to commute up to 40mins. We have very active high schooler, middle schooler , elementary kids and a toddler. All of them are involved in multiple sports, we'd like to be in a district where those activities are supported. Obviously we somewhere with a lot of room, and would love an acre or two(more if possible). Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Just a heads up... you're going to be asked about your home buying budget. And for good schools and a 40 minute commute, can you do without the acreage?

Just FYI, there's not going to be any district you consider at that won't have athletics and activities.

I hope you have a REALLY large budget to work with because 1-2 acres within 40 minutes of downtown is going to cost $1M+++. The average lot size for most of the DFW area is under .25 acre.

Dallas isn't as cheap as many relocatees think and that Dixie Chicks song about "wide open spaces" wasn't about Dallas....a major metropolitan area with approx population of 7 million.

We have a healthy budget(not $1million) and can do without the acreage too(figured it might be a pipe dream. We are looking for a more "rural"/small town without a completely unbearable commute.

Rural + 40 minutes to downtown doesn't exist.

I would check Heath, Sunnyvale, and Parker.

Sunnyvale has 1/2 acre lots and very small schools., but good quality. There isn't much there but it's near Rockwall for shopping. Closest to downtown.

Heath is on the other side of Rockwall and also has larger lots. You could get close to an acre there, depending on your budget. Commute to downtown can be hellish if there is a wreck going over the Lake Ray Hubbard bridge. Good schools (Rockwall ISD) and sports. My guess is 45-60 minute commute. Not much there but close to Rockwall.

Parker is north on 75. Probably 45+ min commute depending on how Far East of 75 you live. Parker is where Southfork Ranch (of the tv show Dallas) is. It's the most expensive of the three, but also has the largest lot sizes. Hardly any shopping but close to Plano. Plano schools which are excellent academically & athletically.

Must be. There is another one for 800k on 1 acre. Probably more typical.
