There's more to being happy than having a big cheap house and a car you drive everywhere.

There is also more to being happy than having a family crammed in a small expensive house next to public transit.

Just a little devils advocate.

Yeah. There's the vibrant and diverse neighborhood, the health benefits associated with not driving everywhere, the cultural institutions, constant events, and wide range of recreation available to the family...

That is, the family that decided against the ticky tacky house out in Allen...

So many buzz words in one post.

I knew your response before I hit submit. There are benefits to each lifestyle.

60 minutes is a very short commute in other parts of the country. I work in Manhattan and we have folks commuting two hours each way.

Why do people think if their commute is shorter it makes much of a difference?

When I did have a short commute when I was single many years ago I plop on coach and watch some TV to unwind for one hour or so each night. Today I plop on train, watch netflix for one hour.

How many people that say this end up spending 1-2 days max actually going to the museums/cultural institutions they're so proud of, and instead just watch Netflix and secretly fear the crime in their neighborhood and the surrounding ones?

That's nice if you can get it, but most of the metroplex is underserved by reliable train options.
