I bought a house in Prestonwood that hasn't been updated since it was built in 1983. While I think I can do some of the cosmetic work myself and some things I can get done over time, there are some things I want to do that a pro should probably do (new kitchen cabinets, counters, tile floors, and sink, engineered hardwoods throughout, new can lights, etc.). Has anyone done a VLB home improvement loan? I read about the process and I know I can apply on their site but how does it work? Do I need to know what I want to get done when I apply? Since a general contractor is required, should I get one first or after I apply? Is there an approved contractor list? Any other advice about this program or getting improvements done in general?
