Anyone have Dallas County Jury Duty Recently? (Allen: house, luxury)

Hello:

I was called to jury duty and had no problem with it, I was actually dismissed.

During the morning, waiting at the George Allen bldg there was a introduction video that played over and over. It was about 25 minutes in length and during that time, over half of it was elected councilmen/women and judges begging you to donate your $6 to their Juvenile fund (over 16 different programs, really??).
The video even had John Wiley Price asking for money to be donated.

I do not mind donating my $6, but they need to branch out and create a fund for the Police department, IMO.

Maybe I'm in the minority on this......

I was once on a Jury Panel with John Wiley Price. He was dismissed since he knew too many of the characters in the courtroom personally.

What sort of fund did you have in mind? Something like their taxpayer funded pension fund used to finance a luxury highrise development designed to destroy artwork?

Something for the military or police officers and their families.

There's no shortage of charitable funds setup for pretty much every group imaginable. If the city only promotes one in the jury wait room, there's a reason.

The problem is elected officials and judges asking you to contribute.
That's an ethics question, in my opinion.

I believe the court house is run by the county, not the city. So there isn't much reason historically for them to have a fund to support the Dallas City police. If you want to suggest something different than what they are doing you'll probably need to work with the county comissioners and county judge.

What about a fund for dead soldiers families? Huh? Do you hate the soldiers? Why don't you support the troops?

I said the military and their families. Look at my previous post.
Someone that is from a military family I assume people like yourself would understand its for everyone associated with the military.

Ethics problem? Hardly. Many of those programs they are promoting are to juvenile justice programs - something that is woefully underfunded in our community and our state. These elected officials and judges aren't personally benefitting from that - it is a demonstrable and worthy cause (if you believe in the Constitutional guarantee of a fair trial).
