Hi there,

Trying to narrow down all the wonderful school districts that are in the Texas area and are finally down to 2 - Frisco and Trophy Club (my daughter is balking at the block schedule offered in the lewisville ISD but maybe we can get her to change her mind- lots of nice neighborhoods there). I just wondered if anyone had any information - positive or negative about Trophy Club. The commute would actually be better for my husband from there vs north frisco, but the south side of frisco would likely be comparable. Thanks for any info you can offer!

Where is your husband's work? Frisco and Trophy Club aren't close to each other at all.

What are her concerns about block scheduling? My HS changed to it my junior or senior year and it was an easy adjustment.

Agreed, where exactly will your husband be working! Trophy Club and Frisco are about 35 miles apart.

Imagine he is driving into North Dallas

Check the Fort Worth forum--Trophy Club is on the FTW side/Tarrant county

It was an older area that had new surge of interest/home building about 7 or so years ago
So there are newer subdivisions and then some that are 30 yrs old or more
Trophy Club proper (not Roanoke or north Keller) has a very tortuous street design to my way of thinking--with few entries and exits--
Because of that at the busy time of the day in AM/PM getting in and out of the neighborhood can be a PITA with cars backed up on the exit off 114 like a funeral
There is also little shopping in the immediate area--most people wind up driving into north Keller, Roanoak or Southlake

Look at a map---and you can see what I mean...

The Northwest district which has Trophy Club as one of its towns was pretty much lower ranked until new construction of high school and some elementaries started because of the new housing starts so there has been better word of mouth about the ISD in past 6 or so years...
It used to have mainly rural/farm areas but construction in the DFW area has grown to encompass outlining towns and thus bring more suburban students into the district--some from parents with fairly high income/education demographics which usually is a positive effect.

He is working in Las Colinas. We have looked at FM, Lewisville, hebron, Frisco, Trophy Club, Prosper. He's been working there for over a year so he's tried the various commutes and thought Trophy Club was easier than Frisco. My daughter currently is in marching band and plays soccer - in our district soccer is an after school activity and in the block schedule apparently both of these would be year round electives (2 of her 4 classes) so that would limit her other options.

Frisch and Prosper are not good commutes to Las Colinas. The tolls really add up, too.
Trophy Club will be a lot better!

I agree that Trophy Club would be better commute than Frisco---
There is update on Frisco ISD's budget situatuion on the Fort Worth or Dallas forum--
You might want to look for it and read the article linked to latest posts...it started in 2016...

What grade is she in--how many more to graduate?
Is she good at Band--might want to try for Band scholarship for college?

I think there are better schools for band results than the new high school Trophy Club feeds into

If Band is IMPORTANT to her--ask her current Band instructor--
They always know who the better marching bands are in various states because there are national competitions

Same w/Soccer--
there are many club teams in the DFW area and people will often drive 40 min or more for their child to play with a quality select team (outside of school season of course)...

You don't mention budget---

Is your daughter familiar with the advantages of the block schedule? From everything I've read, both students and teachers prefer it. It seems to be a disadvantage primarily for students with short attention spans.

It does seem like it would be impossible to be dual sport on the block schedule if both the activities go year round. That's two out of your four periods each semester. The others would have to be core classes, so you would have no other electives besides PE credits right? If she played club soccer (as mentioned above) instead of school soccer it could work. Our kids like the block schedule, they like being done with the subjects they dislike in a semester rather than dragging them out all year. However, we only have one year round sport to deal with.

It seems to me that these schools are so large that there aren't many multi sport athletes at the high school level. They tend to focus on the one that can get them to college. Also, the competition is so large it's hard to make the team because you are trying out against so many others who have been solely focused on that one thing.

Good luck with your decision! Trying to accommodate what will make the kids happy in a move can be challenging!

Have you checked into the Grapevine/Colleyville ISD? So convenient to Las Colinas and highly ranked school district
