This is getting completely ridiculous!! Is it just me, or do roofs need to be made more durable? How is it that my car which is parked outside can sustain no hail damage, yet my roof seems to get totaled every year? These shingles must be very delicate. My home insurance premiums are through the roof with all the claims I've had to make. The roofers say there is nothing I can do to protect against hail other than have good insurance, but is there no way to prevent my roof getting totaled almost every year?

Get a metal roof?

My shingle roof is 23 years old. Normal wear and tear. No bad damage found.

Do you have grade IV shingles?

That seems excessive. I don't recall there being that many roof replacing hail storms in one location over the last 6 years.

You know the answer: Pay for something more durable. Like a metal roof. There are metal shingles that look similar to asphalt shingles.

Our stone-coated metal roof in Las Colinas totally survived many hailstorms from which our neighbors suffered losses. After we lost a roof in 1998, we dug deep into our pockets and threw several thousand of personal funds along with the insurance settlement and had the upgrade. The good news is we also got a significant discount on our insurance premium.

Get better shingles, maybe?

I know McKinney's been unlucky this year (don't recall previous years) but 4 roofs in 6 years is unusual. My house's roof is 14 years old and has been snowed on, iced on, rained on, and hailed on many times. I could probably have it totaled and replaced at this point but I think an adjuster would have to stretch the truth.

Do you think maybe that your roof doesn't really HAVE to be replaced every time you're doing it?

OP is probably in an HOA and most HOAs won't approve a metal roof.

Did your roof leak after it was totaled? If not you can wait to do the work. Mine was totaled a year ago and hit hard again a week ago. I wont replace it until almost 2 years have passed and may get an extension for another year or so. Why do this? Avoid your deductible hitting you each time you replace it also avoid replacements more frequent that necessary for your insurance company. This will save you money in the long run too in lower premiums than you are experiencing now.

They probably also require a better level shingle than what he's been getting.
