Is this a good time of the year to plant palms, or any kind of tree? Or it's better to wait until February/March?

At this point, wait until spring. We are too close to freeze season.

Be aware that in North Texas your palm trees will live several years, but sooner or later there will be a hard freeze in the single digits or low double digits and they will be done for. Enjoy them while you have them, but don't expect them to live for decades and get huge like in S. Calif. or Fla.

Common misconception. The truth is, there are quite a few variety of palms that take temperatures down to the single digit F°s, and those will have no issue getting huge and tall in North Texas.

Thanks! I still have geraniums blooming and plants growing, so I wasn't sure.

I see many palm trees higher than privacy fences in my neighborhood.

I have also seen plastic/faux palm trees so I'm not sure what to think!

Actually this is the best time to plant any tree. Don't wait until the spring. The root system will be active all winter long, and the tree will have an easier time to cope with the summer heat next year.

As stated above there are a few varieties of palm that can survive a freeze. Be aware of where you plant them. the trunk of a palm will thicken very quickly and can cause damage to any structure too close.

Great advice, thanks!! Does the trunk thicken proportionally to height, or does it thicken first and then gain height?

Use this list as a guide in identifying safe species for the Dallas area:

With wise choice, and proper gardening procedure, you can have a garden like this in North Texas:

Tony

So gorgeous!! Is that your garden? Appreciate the list. I haven't priced any palms yet. Are they outrageous?
