My husband and I are considering leaving Central NJ and moving to Dallas TX. We love that Texas, like NJ, is very homeschool friendly, However, we are tired of the cold weather and want a nice size house to raise our children.

-We have three girls whom we homeschool, so public schools are a non-factor for us.
-We would like to be in a nice, diverse suburb that is not too far from Downtown Dallas for family entertainment/date nights. 45-60min
-Commute is also a non-factor since we will both be working from home by the time of this move
-Home purchase budget between $350k-$650k and possibly can go up to $700k
-Homes that are not too close to each other - we DETEST "reach out and touch your neighbor" types of homes so some acreage would be ideal.
-We are Christians so a church with diverse members would be great
-We are vegetarian and love to try new restaurants that are vegetarian friendly
-Good malls/shopping

Our oldest daughter is a dancer and our middle one is an competitive cheerleader, so cheer gyms and dance studio that are a close drive would be nice but I don't mind driving.

I hope I have provided enough info for you guys to zero in on the best suburbs suitable for our family based on the above details.

Thank you in advance.

Dallas doesn't have acreage until you reach the $1,000,000 mark. Plano may have some around $800+K. all the others are doeable. Can you flex on acreage? Or go up on the budget?

We can flex on the acreage for a 5 bedroom house with 3+ baths.
Thank you!

If you can go up to $700k, you can try Lovejoy/Lucas - bigger lots (relative to other areas), close to Allen/Fairview shopping, good schools, yet reasonable commute to downtown for your needs and close to Collin County (Plano, Allen, Frisco, McKinney - one of the fast growing areas)

You can also consider Parker, Prosper to be near to Collin County.

If you want to try to be on the lower side of your budget, you can still try those areas, but with smaller lots like everywhere else.

Southlake has bigger lots but $700 could be entry point, you can try Colleyville as another option.

All of them are not too diverse I think, but I do not see any problem there and race shouldn't be a concern. These are some of the options that you can explore, I can think of immediately for your needs.

Have you considered Austin?

In other words, why Dallas?

I like it here but unless there is a specific reason to choose Dallas, there are many other warm climate, pro-homeschooling places that would better suit your wish list.

What about Rockwall? or the Firewheel area of North Garland? Both of these might be able to get a larger lot in your budget.

There's no reason to pay the premium to live in Southlake or Colleyville when you aren't going to use the public schools.

I would try Richardson. Homes near Breckinridge Park have larger lots and mature trees. It’s also one of the more diverse areas. Get a good realtor and have them look by lot size. It is very close to DART, has a large gymnastics center, several dance schools, a large homeschooling community, most definitely has vegetarian dining options, and just about any church denomination or non-denominational church you can think of. A good handful of those churches are quite diverse. There is a good arts festival, many community pools that are very nice, and it’s only 30 minutes drive to most anything you’d want to do in Dallas, with the TP, 75, and Tollway nearby. It’s also affordable, with a nice 3500-4000 sq foot home in the 500-650 range. Property taxes are as bad or worse than in NJ. And it’s HOT, unbearably so, in summer.

For larger lots not too far from decent shopping and within 1 hour of downtown, in no particular order:

Fairview
Lucas
Parker
Heath
Sunnyvale
Cedar Hill
Colleyville

Argyle, Lantana & Aledo would also be on my list for you but they are within 1 hour of DT Fort Worth, not Dallas.
