I start my new job tomorrow and it's off 35/Inwood right off the highway, the same side Parkland Hospital on. I need help on if there is any apartments in this general area that are not too much. This is an entry level job so I will not have huge amounts of money for rent and other items and necessities. Any help would be good.

Thanks.

You won't want to stay in any apartments in that area to be honest. They are fairly run-down and while cheap, they aren't the safest.

Do you know what your price range is going to look like? Entry-level job can describe a vast range of salaries depending on the industry. I'd recommend Uptown, and while you can definitely get an affordable apartment in Uptown if you're savvy enough, it may be outside the price range you're describing.

There are some new apartments right next to Parkland and UTSW, but since they are new I bet they are pricey.

I'm starting out at 30k. So nothing too expensive. I have a little money in savings saved up from when I was in college and all. This is my first job out of college. Still at home with the parents and looking to stay a little longer and save up some extra money and take advantage of free food/rent/utilities before I start my own life.

It does not have to be extremely close to my job. I drove to Arlington from Forney for 2 and half years in college. A drive is nothing to me but I want to be pretty close. I'm not familiar with that area at all.

I would recommend using an apartment hunter. I used one when I moved from Arlington to Dallas several years ago and was very pleased. They found an apartment for me near Skillman & Abrams that was not ghetto and affordable (a rare combination).

If your single then head over to The Village (or even a young couple). The commute won't be bad and you will be in a good area with other single professionals and lots of amenities for a reasonable monthly rent.

I'm with Far North Dallas, those new apartments/condos are nice by UTSW but I bet $$$$$$.

Blackspider, check the area between Maple and Highland Park and Love Field and Oak Lawn Blvd., known as Oak Lawn, zip 75219.

You may need to drive around a bit, take paper/pencil to write down phone numbers maybe a cell phone to make a quick call. There's non-pricey apartments all over the place, just gotta be careful in some. The closer you get to Lemmon the better the 'hood. Also, three streets at the north edge of Oak Lawn - Hawthorne, Herschel and Prescott have older apartments, maybe six or eight in a building with a central hallway. These aren't advetised but you might get a phone number to make that call.

Good luck.

I've always noticed that Oak Lawn is either heavily Hispanic or heavily gay, neither of which the OP really mentioned. Is this not accurate?

The Oak Lawn area near Maple tends to heavily Hispanic but less so the nearer to Cedar Springs. The trend may reverse as new construction takes over the area. Some new construction includes pricey condos or apartments.

Near Cedar Springs and north to Lemmon tends to gay but not necessarily... well, yes, gay, I suppose.

Between Lemmon and Highland Park, called North Oak Lawn among those who choose to distinguish may be gay related but has been trending to high dollar townhomes and those who prefer an urban lifestyle but don't fit into Uptown. Think La Madeliene, EatZi's and Whole Foods.
