I've narrowed our choices for moving down to North Garland/Firewheel, and the 75074 or 75023 parts of Plano. That puts us within about 20 min. of hubby's commute to Shiloh and the Tpke.
We plan to move late December or January so I want to start making trips through different neighborhoods to get a feel for what they're like. We currently live in Red Oak, but want to rent up north first before we buy, mostly because we own another home and don't want a 2nd mortgage, but also to get a feel for the areas.
Here's what I'm looking for:
family friendly neighborhoods (our kids are 4 and 2 and we plan to have another soon, and I'd like to know that we could visit or chat with our neighbors instead of never seeing them)
decent parks/library nearby
we will homeschool so I'm not too interested in the school districts
I would also love to have some bigger trees in the yard since my boys are outside often (think tree house, lol)
Can someone help me out with what neighborhoods to look at?

Come out to the Firewheel Mom's Club Fall Festival. The kids will LOVE IT! It is a great way to meet people in the Firewheel and Greens neighborhoods in this area. It is on October 17th at the Firewheel Golf Course Pavilion. This would also be a good way to find out about rentals in the area and if anyone knows of one coming up as most will not be listed or last long as there are not that many around here.
Home - Firewheel Mom's Club
Breckinridge Park is nearby w/ a lot of different park playground areas, sports fields and a long walk/bike path. When it is nice outside the play are at Firewheel Town Center is packed w/ little kids and families enjoying the weather. During the holidays and over the summer there are family friendly outdoor concerts, movies and fireworks at the mall.
If his job is at Shiloh and 190 and you live in the Firewheel area his commute would be 5-10 minutes tops.
There is an ASI Gymnastics in Firewheel that has a homeschool program for those that homeschool.
The North Garland Library branch is very close by as it is on N. Garland Ave at Arapaho across from Winters Park (soccer fields). The new one when they build it will be on N. Garland Ave right by Hawaiian Falls Water Park. The main branch is in downtown Garland and still only 10-15 minutes away.
