We moved from Boston to Atlanta and have always had a workshop in our basement for home fix it projects, cutting trim, building cabinets, etc. We are moving to Dallas and they have very few homes with basements. Where do people work on projects or store lawnmowers, paint cans and large power tools?
Thank you,
Becky

Ever notice how many cars are parked in the driveway?

I've never lived anywhere that had a basement. That's what garages are for! Really, that is one of the reasons why homes in this area have to have a 3 car garage to have decent resale value. Lots of homeowners do put storage sheds in their back/side yards, but HOA's aren't usually to keen on that.

Funny Funny. We usually keep our cars in the garage but we may have to make some adjustments.

Garage or backyard tool house. You can buy them at Lowes pretty cheap or even build one yourself if you have the time & skills.

I always bought houses that had workshops attached to the garage. That was a must have, lol. I guess if they aren't building them that way anymore, I'd have a contractor build one for me.

Exactly. Workshops (either attached to the garage or separate) and storage buildings of some sort. That's pretty much anywhere in Texas, I'd think. (There are a few basements sprinkled around, but in my 60 years in various parts of Texas, I think I've actually seen two real basements (as opposed to walk-outs when the house is built on the side of a hill, which doesn't really count.)

We use our garage for the mower and home projects and also have a custom built shed for my gardening stuff. Our garage has two large closets which helps. As long as everything stays organized we have no problems parking both cars in there as well.

We have mower, edger and a few other things in the garage. Do projects in the backyard. Many of our neighbors have sheds in the empty space next to the driveway (we paved that spot over for another car to park in back), but we don't live in an HOA subdivision. I imagine if you were in an HOA, they would have an opinion about any type shed you tried to erect on your property.
