Princeton Medical Institute to Hold Free Memory Screenings on November 17, 2009
Individuals can take advantage of free, confidential memory screenings as part of National Memory Screening Day, an annual initiative of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) to promote proper detection of memory problems.

The incidence of Alzheimer’s disease is escalating nationwide. It is estimated that as many as 4.5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, and the number is escalating in line with aging baby boomers. Age is the greatest risk factor.
This marks AFA’s seventh annual National Memory Screening Day. Sites nationwide are participating. Visit

November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.
Memory screenings are safe and simple, averaging five to ten minutes, and consisting of questions and tasks to assess memory. They do not diagnose any illness, but can indicate whether someone should follow up with a medical exam.
According to AFA surveys, concern about stigma and denial of symptoms can delay a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease 28.7 months on average after symptoms appear. In addition, AFA’s survey of 2007 NMSD participants found that 68.1 percent of respondents had memory concerns, but only 21.1 percent had discussed them with their clinicians despite visits within the last six months.
