I am looking into relocating from the Pocono region of Pa. to the Georgetown/ Rehoboth area. I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the schools. I have a 13 yr. old son and an 8 yr. old daughter. Also about the community. What are the people like, etc. ? I'm worried about being the "outsider". We have vacationed there many times, during all seasons. But, I know that a vacation is very different from everyday life. Any help would be much appreciated.

You won't be an outsider at all in Rehoboth--most of the people who live there are from out of state anyway. The school district is Cape Henlopen, one of the better districts in the state. Most of the people are really nice in Rehoboth and will be accepting towards you and your children. The only areas to avoid in Rehoboth are west Rehoboth/Hebron Road and Burton Village (across from the YMCA, near west Rehoboth), but I doubt you'd want to look at homes in that area anyway. It's very evident right away that these areas are very shady. Other than that, the rest of the Rehoboth area is safe and family friendly.
Georgetown is home to many out-of-staters as well, though not as many as Rehoboth. The school district is Indian River, and it's one of the best districts I have ever encountered. The town is still somewhat cozy and more laid back than Rehoboth, but it does have some crime. But, it's scattered--it's not everywhere. Most high crime areas will be evident right away (apartments, some trailer parks and older, run down homes). If you decide you like a certain area/community, post it on here and I'll advise you on what I know about it. You're safe to walk all around town during the day and visit stores without much to worry about, and the residents should be quite welcoming towards you.
Let me just add that I really love where you live now, although I wouldn't want to be there year-round (too much snow and that would cramp my style). However, it's one of my favorite places and I find the people up there to be very charming and friendly
. I think you'll find there's a lot to keep you occupied and entertained here year-round, without the snow/bad weather burden. Hope this helps....

As Liz said Indian River is a great school district. I would no worry about being considered outsiders or new comers. There are many great areas to live in the general Georgetown area. My main concern would be employment. There are not a whole lot of year around jobs with benefits in the area.

Longnecker is right about the jobs....gainful, full-time employment can be quite lacking in this area.
