I've never heard of anything like this before. Sussex Academy was established a few years ago as a Middle School in Georgetown. They have wanted to expand and add high school grades. The state has granted permission and they plan to add one grade a year. Delmarva Christian is a newer high school . It has a large very impressive building and nice athletic fields. Delmarva Christian has not met it's goals for enrolling students and has much more building than it needs. They plan to switch campuses. Read article in The Cape Gazette.

Charter schools in Delaware do not receive capital money from the state to build. Charter schools have to raise money from private donors or business in order to build. Once school construction is completed the building that houses the students is owned by a separate self governed board - not owned by the school district or state. Sussex Academy's board swapped buildings because they had autonomy to do so. Understand?

It's a simple solutiuon that does not cost those involved any money. If it was the school district run by a taxing entity, it would be raising taxes and building more buildings at cost to taxpayers. Mybe the school districts need to learn a lesson.
