Thumbs up Yes!

I believe the bridge toll (Delaware Memorial Bridge) is $4 - 5 toll. Lots to see in Delaware, though natives might be more informative than I am. The scenery is flat, salt marshes, and beaches seem to be good, but I would probably go a few more miles to Ocean City, MD. I like the salt marsh/beach view scenery, since it is similar to where I am now. I recently bought a place near Dover and will be there there by fall. The beaches seem all right, but it understand traffic is terrible in the summer. I will miss my nice beach 1 mile away, but I will adjust, I guess.

If you are just looking to visit, I would say, do it!

Make it a two- or three-day trip and you'll have a great time.

Based on your interests, northern Delaware may not be worth a day trip, except for some really outstanding restaurants: Hotel DuPont Green Room, Krazy Kat's, La Fia. There are some nice parks in northern New Castle County, particularly Brandywine Creek State Park and White Clay Creek State Park.

It's too far to do the Delaware Beaches as a day trip, and they have most of what you seem to be looking for: Ocean and bay scenery. Rehoboth Beach has the highest concentration of fabulous restaurants in the state, including one owned by a three-time James Beard semi-finalist chef, Hari Cameron. In case you're a beer lover, it's also home of the James Beard winner for Outstanding Wine, Spirits, or Beer Professional, Sam Calagione, founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewing. Dogfish's restaurant in Rehoboth Beach is very popular.

There's an old Swedish church, built in 1698, in Wilmington that may be worth seeing.

Otherwise, the beach and coastal woodlands/marshes are the main attractions in Pennsylvania's panhandle.

Wy wife and I vacation in DE each summer. The beaches are wonderful, and there are many interesting sites to see. We did the DE history trail this summer, and there is a lot of cool stuff on that. We did go to the Swedish Church, as well as Wintertur and Hagley Mills in the Wilmington area, the John Dickenson Plantation near Dover, etc. We stayed at the beach in Sussex County, and we enjoy it very much there. Yes the traffic is bad on the main roads, but there are ways to avoid it - we even figured out a back way to Assateague Island

From NYC I would not consider Southern Delaware as a day trip. Lewes and Cape Henplopen State Park for history, views and great swimming. As others have mentioned dinner in Rehoboth Beach. Night life might be slow for someone from the city. Maybe on down to Ocean Coty Md for the night. Make very sure you have reservations on summer weekends.

Rdlr and nuts--LOL!!!

Personally, I don't find our beaches that great in comparison to the ones I visit in Florida and the Caribbean. The ocean water is cold, dirty, and rough. There's always trash (cig butts, wrappers, etc.) in the sand. The bay is warm now, but also dirty. I haven't gone to a DE beach in years. We only go to Assateague where people aren't on top on each other. However, we went there last weekend and the water was too cold and biting flies were everywhere. I live near the beach for the quality of life, year-round events, and low crime rate--not for our beaches. Then again, I have become spoiled with my tropical vacations so this is just my opinion.

But anyway....to answer the OP's question. We do have some great state parks!! You might want to check out Cape Henlopen for some history and good hiking. There is also a beach. Lewes is also a cute little town to explore and it has a bay beach (nice one), but it's really crowded this time of year.
