I know this is a long shot, but I know there are more Sussex County folks on this board than not. This is for a home that a family member owns, but I am tasked with its upkeep.

One long-time contractor who I've seen recommended is J&J Bulkheading. They seem like they might be reasonable (this is a very small, dated home), as opposed to the companies that work on big, big projects. And I think they may have installed the structure originally. But their website is not operating, and I see that the original owner retired and then passed away a couple of years ago. Yet it looks like they were doing jobs last summer. Does anyone know if they're still in business?

Has anyone been through the process of getting a permit from DNREC for such a thing? It seems so daunting. To get a permit to repair a dock, it has to be in serviceable condition. My family member's bulkhead is serviceable, but the dock may not be. It's pretty busted up, and it's been in bad shape at least since Sandy. I'm not sure what that means for getting it fixed. What happens if DNREC says "this doesn't qualify for a repair permit"? Does that just shift it to a different category of permit? This is in a community that is mostly canal-front homes. I guess I'm trying to get a sense of how big of an undertaking I'm about to get myself into. If anyone has any input about pricing and timelines, I'd welcome that, too. I'm trying my best to research all of it before I start making phone calls, but I'm really in the weeds here. (So is the dock! *badoompsh*)

My former neighbor worked for (and may have been part owner) of J & J Bulkheading. I know he worked for them up until he moved away a few months ago. I saw the truck in his driveway up until the day he moved. He was a quiet, younger guy (late 30's) so I never got to know him well. He was a decent person though and I would trust him to do work if I needed it. I have never heard anything bad about his company.

Hope this helps.....

You're welcome.
To add: I was on a local Facebook page and saw somebody had contacted them and they said they were over a year out.

Oh, wow. Ouch. I'll call them tomorrow (Monday), but that's good to know. I guess I'd better plan to call a few places, then.

Incidentally, I was down there on Friday to measure the boat ramp and cut the grass, and saw their truck on the road. Guess I got my answer!

Maybe, you could call a few marinas and ask who they would suggest. Just a thought.
