Hello all. I'm new to the scene in Denver, and wondering where I can go out to relax with a book and enjoy a beer. I don't favor loud pubs, I just like places where I can relax with a brew and hear myself think. Any ideas?

I'll check it out, but honestly from the pictures I see online it doesn't look to be very relaxing:

Maybe I am looking for a Cafe that serves good brew...any ideas?

You should check out Paris on the Platte at 1553 Platte Street near downtown. It's in a cool little neighborhood. One side of the establishment is a quiet cafe and coffee shop (they also serve alcoholic beverages in the cafe). On the other side, they have a bar with a nice seating area (comfortable sofas and chairs) where you can read. Neither the bar nor the cafe have ever seemed "loud" or over-crowded to me. The patrons are very eclectic, it reminds me of a coffee bar you would see in Portland. Definately worth checking out!

OK that's looking darn near perfect and close to me as well.

Any other recommendations are welcomed.

St Marks is the coffee shop that adjoins the Thin Man bar. Same owners. The coffee shop is quiet, the bar *can* be busy late at night as all bars tend to be and the picture above demonstrates.

The idea of going out into public to read and drink is a strange one when you can buy a 6 pack at any local liquor store and take it to one of millions of quiet places, like your home.

Ahh got it on the coffee shop side. I'll check it out.

I guess it could seem weird, but this is very popular in San Francisco, Seattle, NYC, Europe and even Mexico. Beer doesn't always have to be associated with sports and screaming. It's no different than sitting at Starbucks reading but having a beer instead of coffee.

It's pretty relaxing to me.

One of the Irish Places up in the Ballpark District (I forget the name of it) has a whole section that I think is part book lounge, part smoking (as in cigars) parlor (or something like that.) Might be worth checking out.
