My husbands company is moving to DTC in July. We plan to rent for a year to get a feel for the area. We are thinking Wash Park East is a good place for us to rent. A few questions: how long of a commute to DTC. Is public transportation an option? Is it feasible to find a 3br rental in that area for $2000-2500? If not, what area is a good second choice?

I can't really speak on how long the commute would take, but I can tell you that finding a 3 bedroom under $2500 is going to be a tall task in East Wash Park. You could try nearby areas like W. Wash Park or Platt Park. If you wanted to go further South to reduce the commute, consider the Southmoor area. If you go further North, you could consider Park Hill, Mayfair and Montclair, which are established neighborhoods like Wash Park, but with cheaper rents.

Why not rent in some of the southern suburbs close to DTC? I'm sure that you can find a nice house in your price range both east and west of I-25, and his commute would be very short. Do you have any other criteria?

If you want to be closer in town, then light rail is an option to DTC, although he'll still need a way to get to the station from your house and from the station to his office. RTD operates both the buses and the light rail in the Denver area, and you can look at lines and schedules on their website.

I'm planning to rent my updated 2 BR in West Wash Park in that price range. I don't think you will find a 3 BR in East Wash Park that is updated for that kind of money.

As for the commute, it is very feasible. One of the great things about Wash Park is I-25 a access is a snap. Light rail at University is probably a drive, but certainly doable. If you decide to go for West Wash Park or Platt Park neighborhoods, light rail access is even easier. Depending on where his company will be located in DTC, this may be a great option. Good luck!

As for the guy above recommending you live in DTC or South suburbs, I wouldn't bother if you like the feel of Wash Park. It is a great place to live and there is certainly nothing like it in the burbs. It's a very easy commute to DTC.

I lived in Bonnie Brae for 24 years so I love the greater Wash Park area.

Thanks for the input. I guess we will have to look elsewhere besides wash park because the third bedroom isn't really negotiable for us and i really dont want to go over $2500 while renting. As far as other criteria, I'm not as worried about that as I would be if we were buying but the usual - safe and family-friendly (we have a toddler) would be ideal. We can consider going to the south suburbs as well and I will look into your suggestions of Platt Park too. Feel free to recommend some south suburbs if there are any that you love. Thanks!

There are tons of nice, safe, family-friendly neighborhoods around the Tech Center. Anything west of I-25 between Orchard on the north and County Line Road on the south and University Blvd on the west. (I know, these are general perameters given price range, so others may disagree). Our old neighborhood east of I-25 was Cherry Creek Farm and would fit your criteria.

If you want to be close to Wash Park, Belcaro would be a good area to look at. Like most of Denver, the rental inventory is very low, but this area would almost certainly be priced in your range for a 3br and it is a great neighborhood.
