We have been gardening now in Denver for a few years and really enjoy it and the attached picture (just planted) is our work in progress. I’ve tried to grow all sort of stuff but this year the close area in the picture will all be Zucchini (love to eat plus give it away). The next area will have tomatoes, jalapeño peppers and yellow peppers.

The two black bins are composters which we bought near the end of last summer and so put about 9 months of composting back into the soil..

What do you grow?

By the way.. we have two composters so that while one is finishing "fermenting", we are putting the fresh compost in the other one. Ie, we switch back and forth on which bin gets the new compost.

When one is done "fermenting", I empty it into the garden and then the new compost goes into this bin and the other one gets left to finish.

We grow grapes, raspberries, black berries, carrots, strawberries, chives (they take over), mint, thyme, basil--I am trying new this year red peppers, cucumbers, radishes and my boys want to plant watermelon from seeds but I've never had to plant in mounds so I am still trying to figure out where we will plant that!! Last year we had a great crop of raspberries and grapes. Hoping for the same this year too!!

My apple trees are blooming. We are planning our garden now. Tomatoes are at the top of the list.

I wouldn't plant anything YET. The forecast is calling for possibly 9" snow in the CITY, measured in FEET in the mountains on Sunday night.

All our trees have bloomed. I'm worried about breaking branches, and they're saying massive power outages are possible. I love gardening, but late/early snows really make it difficult.

Yeah, we aren't planting anything until the beginning of June. The last few years we have done tomatoes and peppers. The wife is dreaming bigger this year. She is having her brother build her a raised garden. Should be nice when it all comes together.

Have you had much success with that Rhoddendron? I love them, but they seem to easily die in winter, and don't get very big here. Do they do better on one side of the house vs. another? Or need a more protected area?

I can no longer plant a vegetable garden. My neighbor's Aspen trees got too big and shade the area where we used to plant vegetables. We hardly got any tomatoes a couple years ago, due to the shade

Scott, you didn't winter over that bouganvillea outside, did you? I'm assuming it's a fresh transplant from the garden center? Beautiful!

Here are my alliums blooming in a bed facing the street. They look like lollipops. Guess I'd better enjoy them now because I don't think several inches of snow on Mother's Day will do them any favors.

I have had Rhoddos in containers and in the ground or in the greenhouse in Denver for over 15 years.
The best sight location is preferably a filtered all day light on a sheltered north east location. I have added humidity with ponds and fountains in the summer. I actually forced blooms this year early in several containers using t-5 lights in the greenhouse in concert with direct morning sun and filtered sun the rest of the afternoon. On my flush on my rose standards and second crop of lemons since January.
