Sorry if this topic should directed elsewhere or if I should join in on a related discussion in a similar thread. I just recently found out about this site and signed up for an account today, so be kind I currently live in the Chicago area, and wish to move to Denver following college graduation next Spring. This will be the first big move of my life, and I will be doing it alone. The distance isn't a worry (I used to live down in Southern Illinois near the Kentucky border) it's not knowing anything about the job and housing market that has me concerned. So, now that I've established the basic facts, on to my questions for you guys. First, how would you guys suggest going about securing an apartment from such a distance? Would I have to drive to Denver one weekend and finalize everything a month or so before the move, or could the basic details be confirmed via phone? And second, how hard is it to find employment in the brewing industry out in Colorado? Does Coors hire often, Fat Tire, etc? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

I have to ask... Why would you consider moving somewhere without at least spending 3 to 4 days in the area? (3 to 4 isn't even enough in my book. I spent a week out here before I came out and I thought it wasn't enough) I would never recommend taking even a temporary apartment without looking at the neighborhood and the other surroundings. Too many variables.

Coors pops up in the classifieds here and there, but before you come out for a week I would secure a minimum of 3 interviews with prospective employers. If you have previous brewery experience that would be a plus. Always have a back up plan and a back up to the back up plan. When I came out in October I had 3 interviews. In between those I was running all over town looking for an apartment and just going nuts. Brings back memories.

Colorado has quite a few microbreweries in addition to the big three (Coors, New Belgium, and Budweiser in my book). I would agree with Mikieo415, you should get interviews lined up and come visit for a while before you commit to moving here.

Yes, that is basic advice for anyone considering moving anywhere! Especially as we enter this recession.
