Looking at a possible move to the area in the near future.

I am a journeyman electrician and also a journeyman carpenter.

I would prefer to work as an electrician at this time. I worked as a carpenter for almost 20 years before going to electrical Which I now have 6 years in.

If there is enough work to just move there and stay busy I would prefer that. Otherwise I may move there but then work in Washington state which is very busy.

Any input is appreciated, thanks in advance.

It's pretty much non-stop these days.
I heard a report on one of the local news stations that noted that there is such a shortage of workers, an organization has started to give free training to fill the gap.

There's more work then there are workers.

If you want to start working immediately, you may want to consider signing up with Tradesman International when you arrive. It's a staffing agency for construction jobs. It will very likely lead to a full time job. Also check craigslist, indeed, etc. for job postings. Contacting big electrical contractors directly could also lead to employment. I would say good luck but don't think you'll need it. As long as you have a good work ethic and are a hard worker, you will stay busy.

I am really looking hard at starting on my own as well.

Tenant remodels maybe (commercial). It was one of the first things I got into as a carpenter.

Tons of people looking for remodeling work too, not just commercial. I'm in Stapleton, a planned urban community that first started about a dozen years ago. And while I'm unfortunately not one of them, many people here have a lot of money to throw around and are already looking to remodel newer homes, and everyone is scrambling for contractors. Plus if they bought new with an unfinished basement, they want to finish those. Obviously getting started so you have references and referrals takes some time, but there is plenty of work to go around. Also, I know many of the builders are always hiring site superintendents, if that's something you are interested in (I have no idea if that's considered a good job, how it pays, etc)

Good friend in stapleton just did his basement. ~$80K. They've been in the house around 7-8 years I think.

I'm amazed that some people are already remodeling finished space - we have a huge online swap group and you sometimes see people selling a suite of kitchen appliances because they are remodeling and getting all new.

As they say, rich or poor, it's nice to have money! lol!

Well, we just did major ($50K) renovation of part of our 6-year-old kitchen.
We have the money.
We plan to live here another 20+ years.
We want what we wanted. Got my Sub-Zero godammit.
Our south wall went from this to this.

It is almost complete.
