If you buy a subaru you have to have an Obama sticker and drive rather poorley. Just kidding. Had my subaru station wagon for ten years 130,000 miles. Only had to replace the cv boots a couple of times. If your going to drive on dirt roads to trail heads and such the four wheel drive low option is a must. If your only going to drive paved roads that are sometimes snowy then I would also recomend looking at the Infinity G37x awd. It's a little classier and better built. Like the other person said , if you buy a Subaru buy the station wagon (not Turbo). The extra room is really a plus.

If you plan on zipping about up and down the mountains in pursuit of recreational activities, a Subaru is really the way to go. I would also strongly consider a turbocharged model if you plan to regularly do any high-altitude driving.

i have a 2005 Legacy GT (5mt turbo model) and just hit 106k miles on it. all ive ever done was fluid changes and never needed anything major fixed or repaired ... except my clutch since i added 50whp and 100wtq lol. im lookin into trading it in for the new 2010 LGT cuz i dont care for the modding scene anymore but i gotta say its a great choice for this area. go for the 3.0R or the 2.5GT cuz the 2.5i wont be as much fun, especially since turbos love the cold air.

btw, when the car was stock it was one of the most comfortable, quickest cars i test drove at the time which is why i got it over the WRX. you will not be disappointed. check out LegacyGT.com for more info on the 2010 Legacy, its where i got started over 5 years ago.

good luck!

Yes, the boot issue is common in these subaru wagons. Ours is approaching 100k and haven't had any major issues. It's just a plain ol' Outback wagon we got from the east coast for a good price. We looked into upgrading but it's pricey here even for slightly used.
