I will be traveling to the Detroit area for work (Southfield to be exact). I am looking for Marriott hotels that are near the area. I know there are a couple in Southfield and a Renaissance in Novi, does anyone know if these are good areas?

It would be great if there were restaurants around the area as we will be going every week. The Renaissance looks like a nice hotel, but I have no idea what Novi is like. Any suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated!

Both would be fine places to stay. Novi is newer and has a better rep for safety, but the ten mile or so drive to Southfield gets busy. Southfield is right in the heart of the business action. I'm pretty sure there is a Marriott or even two in Troy; that's a nice area with a lot of business around it as well.

Thanks! How is the commute from Troy to Southfield?

Not bad but not great. It's no worse than Novi to Southfield, maybe a mile or two closer, depending on what part of Troy and what part of Southfield.

Save yourself the hassle and just stay in Southfield. It's a decent part of town.
