I am hoping some of the friendly CD posters can help me. So, I am visiting Beverly Hills, Michigan next month for only a couple of days. Having never been to Detroit, I know nothing of the area. If someone could advise what areas to book a hotel in or nearby that would be great. A suburban area that is safe would be great.

Search Orbitz or Hotwire for Southfield, MI. All the hotels will be along 696/Telegraph. From there it's only a 5 minute drive to Beverly Hills.

If you are wealthy you could look at hotels like the Townsend in downtown Birmingham.

I wouldnt stay at most the hotel in southfiekd along 696/telegraph with the exception of a few. Alot of those hotels have a high volume of hookers working from them. In Birmingham bothe The raddison on Woodward just south of long lake rd is good and about 7 or 8 miles from BH. There is also a holiday inn at woodward and maple that is closer to BH. ALso in In southfield bothe the marriott on northwestern hwy is good (it can be a little tricking with the roads around there but not bad) also the Westin on town center rd is good.

AVOID in southfield - Marvin gardens, extended stay, hawthone suites, any redroof, or embassay suites.

Yeah, see above comment about many of the "budget" hotels in Southfield. Avoid the "budget" chains in Southfield, avoid all of the hotels in Royal Oak along Woodward, avoid the hotels in Madison Heights near Oakland Mall.

The only 2 hotels in Southfield I would consider staying at are the Southfield Marriott or the Southfield Westin. As for othe areas nearby:

Birmingham two hotels:
-Townsend Hotel - high-end/luxury bontique hotel
-Holiday Inn - affordable and limited ammenities but walking distance to downtown Birmingham

Bloomfield Hills:
-Raddison

Auburn Hills:
-Marriott

Troy:
-Marriott
-Drury Inn
-Homewood Suites
-Somerset Inn

Thanks for all your suggestions. Are there plenty of eating places in these areas? Chains are fine as I need gluten free offerings.

In berverly hills itself, no. from what i've seen it's probably like 98% residential, but I don't quite know where the border between BH and RO, and birmingham and other surrounding areas are. In Royal Oak and Birmingham there are lots of places to eat at and lots of entertainment options. Expect Birmingham to be a little more upscale than Royal Oak.

You won't go hungry in RO or B'ham or Troy or any of the surrounding areas.

Beverly Hills used to be part of Birmingham, but split off a couple of decades ago.

Skinnayyy is right that it's Beverley Hills is mostly residential; but if you are looking for a yummy Michigan snack, Franklin Cider Mill is close by and cider isn't too expensive this year. (The apple crop was mostly destroyed last year, so prices were insanely high - if you could find apple cider at the cider mills.) Have a good visit. 8-)

Beverly Hills is almost all residental.

Good and unique restaurants can be found in Royal Oak, Birmingham, Berkley, and Ferndale.

Troy has plenty of good restaurants, although mostly national chains.
